Construction is proceeding very close to schedule. Site grading and pad preparation are complete. Current work involves placement of underground utilities, foundations, and columns beams, and slabs for the first of three levels.
On August 2, 2007, the Public Building Commission approved additional funding for construction of 128 additional beds, for a total of 554 beds in Phase II. Additional bed space is a continuing need for the Johnson County, and this will help ease our strain in the future. Approving this funding was an effective use of taxpayer funds, because the 128 additional beds will increase the capacity of Phase II by 30%, while increasing construction cost by only 10.2% and staffing cost by only 12.6%.
