Abstract: Innovation, highest value, environmental stewardship and an exemplary process, these were the project goals that led Johnson County, Kansas to develop a forward thinking procurement process for their new $30 million office building. Explore with us the path this public entity took from traditional hard / low bid practices to a Design-Build process that embraced best value rather than cost-based evaluation, a balanced and fair selection process which included the issuance of stipends and a project structure that created a clear focus on excellence. Abstract: In 2004 Johnson County , Kansas conducted a challenging and unique Design-Build Proposal / Design Competition process to procure its partners for the new Sunset Drive Office Building . This 130,000 square foot, highly environmentally responsive facility is intended to be only the second LEED Gold Certified building in the Metro area. The Sunset Drive Office Building , as it is provisionally being called, is the first highly sustainable project for the County and the first procured using Design-Build rather than the traditional Design-Bid-Build delivery method. This building will be completed in early 2006 and, by contract, is to be designed, constructed and certified at the USGBC LEED Gold level. Explore with us the path this public entity took from traditional hard / low bid practices to a Design-Build process that embraced best value rather than cost-based evaluation, a balanced and fair selection process which included the issuance of stipends and a project structure that created a clear focus on excellence. Explore with us the path this public entity took to define sustainable criteria for its capital building programs and how these criteria were applied and embraced through an unconventional Design-Build procurement model The Sunset Drive Office Building , as it is provisionally being called, is the first highly sustainable project for the County and the first procured using Design-Build rather than the traditional Design-Bid-Build delivery method. This building will be completed in early 2006 and, by contract, is to be designed, constructed and certified at the USGBC LEED Gold level. Archibus/FM Webinar - August 23 & 25, 2005: Presented by Michael Chamberlin and Neal Angrisano. Abstract: In 1999, the Johnson County, Kansas Board of County Commissioners directed the Facilities Management Department to redo the county's Strategic Facilities Master Plan (SFMP). The Facilities Department recognized a need for a CAFM system to make this plan a success. Archibus was selected in '99, installed and implemented in 2000, and in 2001 they hired a consultant and developed the plan over a nine month period. The backbone of the plan is in the Space and Strategic Planning modules of Archibus. This session will be a discussion of how we used Archibus to capture the data, the processes and methodology of maintaining the data and the annual updates. Further discussion will revolve around how we have used this data for project planning and programming. The session will conclude with some plans for future enhancements to the annual update procedure.

Abstract: Johnson County Facilities management began Archibus implementation five years ago. In 2002, we reported on how implementation was accomplished with a limited staff. The department has since grown, and its use of Archibus has grown with it. In addition, other agencies within County Government have begun to use Archibus for their own operational needs. All of the maintenance staff is now using the building Ops Module; the Information Technology Services networking group has been trained in the use of the telecom module; the Sheriff's office is using the F&E module for tracking its computers and other fixed assets, the Airport Commission has purchased the RP&L module to track its lease holdings; and departments are tracking their staff in the Space module. The County has included specifications in their contracts for new facility design requiring Archibus based deliverables, such as equipment data, room finishes and all space polylined in both a composite and all room inventory. The Emergency Management department has plans to use the Emergency Prep module to assist in its Continuity of Government Plan, and the governing Board of County Commissioners recognizes that most of the decisions developed using SMP module are thorough, complete and reliable. In short, Johnson County has taken Archibus and truly turned it into a Total Infrastructure Facilities Management Tool.

2004 Archibus /FM User's Conference - Boston, MA, April , 2004: Presented by Michael Chamberlin, Danni Livingston and Neal Angrisano. Abstract: Shortly after Johnson County , Kansas implemented its Strategic Facilities Master Plan in Archibus, it was given the task of developing with a plan to relieve overcrowding in several departments and get several others out of lease space. One of the key components of the plan was to build or buy new facilities while the real estate and bond markets were favorable. Using data from Archibus, the planning team was able quickly determine which departments should be involved, and accurately assess the space needs for new facilities. The initial proposal was conceived in an afternoon and, because of the quality of the Archibus data, wasn't altered much in its final form. The final plan includes new warehouse space, a new LEED gold certified office building, moving over a dozen departments and a saving of over $40 million in leases. The presentation will demonstrate the value of collecting your organization's space needs, keeping it up to date, and having well defined space standards.

Abstract: Johnson County, Kansas embarked on a Strategic Facilities Master Plan project in September, 2001. The process will holistically evaluate the County's strategic objectives, resulting in a planning tool that provides a framework for sound decision-making and enables the county to anticipate and manage change using the Archibus Strategic Planning Module.
