Two projects under construction!

County Communications Center

Construction is well under wayfor the new County Communications Center (CCC). The $20.9 million project will be located on the county campus at 119th & Ridgeview and will be operational by late 2008.

The CCC will provide a hardened public safety dispatch facility with redundant mechanical and utility systems to ensure that emergency communications for law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services will continue without interruption under hazardous weather conditions. The CCC will provide the opportunity for co-location of several public safety dispatch centers into one facility for significant cost savings to taxpayers and increased coordination of public safety services to citizens by local agencies working closely together in the facility.

The 46,000 square foot structure will be designed and built by the team of PGAV Architects and McCownGordon Construction. LEED certification is anticipated.

Airport Adult Detention Center Phase II

Work is underway to design Phase Two of the planned expansion to the Johnson County Adult Detention Center, located at the Fred Allenbrand Criminal Justice Complex. Phase Two will provide 554 beds for housing inmates, easing current overcrowding in the system which has required the Sheriff's Office to go across the state in search of available bed space. The building will use precast concrete with a stone-finished appearance, glass, brick, and metal panels to create an attractive landmark of civic pride. Inside, Phase Two utilizes state-of-the-art design and technology to create a facility that is safe and efficient to operate for inmates, law enforcement, and visitors. Construction is expected to start in late October of 2007, with Completion scheduled for April, 2009.
